David Batchelor’s opening chapter in Chromophobia entitled Whitescapes is a fascinating exploration of the Western conception of White. Using classics such as Conrad’s Heart of Darkness and Melville’s Moby Dick, Batchelor paints an insightful portrait of Whiteness from a palette of Biblical and Minimalist references. In those concise, 14 pages I’ve already been cast into an excitement of inspiration for new pieces. Furthermore, the language in this book is simply superb. I’ve uploaded the first chapter to mediafire http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=e31beb6c39699ebc1bee9a6e9edd9c7607a7180858cb9cdd5be6ba49b5870170
